Vocal and Singing Warm-Ups

Welcome to the Vocal Warm Ups page.  Here I will be posting warm ups that are good for any voice type.  Start at the top of the page and work your way down for a great vocal warm up.    This is a great way to start your day everyday, prepare for a gig, or simply add to your current routine.
There are short explanations, but for the most part, it is jump in and go!  If you have questions, or difficulties please contact me via e-mail (melodymomusicstudios@gmail.com) or simply leave a comment.  I will respond asap with help!

Let's begin!  We start with Lip Rolls, my personal favorite.

Now, lets warm up that light mix voice with a hooty "whee" sound.

Moving on!  Here comes a real standard in my vocal warm-up repertoire.

Back to the "hooty" sound- great for opening up that mix voice!!

Here is an 8 minute morning workout for those of you ready for the challenge!
Men, please only sing as high as comfortable, the warm-up is not divided into two scales separate scales.

  1. need the piano to be louder.

a little too fast for me.

i love the earrings. you have a good teacher personality--you exude to the student the confidence you have in them to produce.

  3. Very nice video. At the very top of the Male "we" scale I break some. I am a songwriter and feel like I'm close to being able to hit those highs. I am very interested in the light mix voice and have been doing "whats" and "hoots " alot. I'd like to learn more. Some tips would be useful. Here are the some songs i've written where the highs can get tricky at times. http://steveguthrie.bandcamp.com/

  4. I wish I could sing as high as that. But I am only in an Alto level.

  5. Hi Anonymous,
If your voice breaks, it usually means there either isn't enough strength built to hold the chords together yet, or that too much tension is building up and pulling the chords apart. Try getting through all of the exercises on Lip Rolls, that should help strengthen and relax your bridges!

  6. Hi Singing Tips,
Did you know that I was an alto in choir as well? I always thought that I had to be happy with my limited range, but I was wrong! If you can find a SLS teacher near you, I highly recommend you study with one! It has opened my voice up substantially, which is why I am now a pre-certified SLS instructor. Many blessings, and keep singing!
